Sitting proudly like a jewel at the centre of the Costa del Sol’s beautiful coastline, this once small fishing village first came to the attention of the jet set in the 1950s, and today, it is still considered to offer the type of lifestyle that most people only dream about.
The combination of a near perfect climate, golden sandy beaches, marinas, international cuisine, outdoor lifestyle, sports, nightlife, shopping opportunities and easy access, make it a magnet for anyone looking for an idyllic lifestyle in the Spanish sunshine. Add to this the choice of wonderful coastal, country and golf properties available and it is easy to see why the area is such a hit with expats, visitors, tourists and investors from Scandinavia and beyond.
To provide a brief overview…the municipality of Marbella runs from Cabopino (east) to the Guadalmina (west), where it rubs shoulders with the neighbouring town of Estepona. The Golden Mile spanning the stretch of coastline that links Marbella town centre with Puerto Banús is one of the most sought after locations. It is also home to many of Marbella’s famous landmarks, such as Marbella Club Hotel, Olivia Valere nightclub, Manolo Santana tennis club and also the Saudi Arabian royal family’s mansion designed as a replica of the ‘White House’. Marbella’s Old Town is arguably one of the coasts prettiest and busiest areas where tiny shops, churches, bars and restaurants behind white facades with colourful bougainvillea jostle for space amongst cobbled streets and hidden plazas. Nearby Puerto Banús is arguably the most famous marina in Spain attracting super yachts and visitors from all over the world, all keen to sample the portside restaurants and bars, nightlife, designer boutiques and beach clubs. Further to the east, Elviria is credited with some of the best beaches on the Costa del Sol and also boasts the celebrated hot spot, Nikki Beach. The area is also popular with families, there are plenty of golf courses and the notable Michelin star restaurant El Largo…with this in mind it becomes clear why Marbella remains one of the most popular locations on the Spanish peninsula!
